Glazing and fenestration

B2B and trade marketing for the glazing industry

By Marcus, founder of PipelineOS · last reviewed 25 September 2026 · sources on the benchmarks page

Fabricators, systems houses, component suppliers and trade counters are all sold advertising designed for homeowners. Trade search volume is a fraction of consumer volume and worth many times more per enquiry. This page is about telling them apart and building for the smaller one.

In short

Business-to-business glazing marketing targets fabricators, systems houses, component suppliers and trade counters rather than homeowners. The trap is search volume: consumer terms such as double glazing carry almost all the volume and almost none of the trade buyers, so any account measured on clicks or cost per click drifts towards the wrong audience automatically. Measuring trade account applications and sample requests instead is what keeps it honest.

Who this is for

The glazing trade has at least four distinct kinds of seller, and they get lumped together as "glazing marketing" to everybody's cost:

  • Systems houses selling profile and licences to fabricators.
  • Fabricators selling finished units to installers.
  • Component and hardware suppliers selling to fabricators and installers alike.
  • Trade counters and distributors selling to local fitters, usually within a drive.

None of them is selling to a homeowner, and all of them are being sold advertising designed for homeowners. That is the core problem this page is about. If you install windows for the public, the glazing marketing page is the one you want instead.

The volume trap

Search volume in this sector is shaped like an iceberg with the wrong part showing. Consumer terms — double glazing, new windows, window prices — carry almost all the volume and almost none of the trade buyers. Trade terms carry a fraction of the volume and nearly all the money.

The consequence is that any account measured on clicks, impressions or cost per click will drift towards consumer terms automatically, because they are cheaper and there are more of them. An account measured on account applications will not. Which number you put at the top of the report decides what the account becomes over six months, and almost nobody makes that choice deliberately.

What a trade buyer actually searches

Trade buyers search like professionals: specifically, with product and standard names, and often with a constraint attached. The pattern is recognisable once you look for it.

  • Named systems and profiles, frequently with "supplier", "fabricator" or "distributor" attached.
  • Lead time and availability, which is the single most common reason a fabricator changes supplier and almost never has a page written about it.
  • Specification and compliance: U-values, standards, certification, testing. A page that answers these properly earns links inside the trade, which consumer content never does.
  • Trade account terms: opening an account, minimum orders, delivery areas, credit.
  • Geography with trade intent: a trade counter's catchment is a drive time, not a county.

Each of those deserves its own page with a real answer on it. "Contact us for a quote" is not an answer to a lead-time search, and the buyer who asked is going to find someone who states theirs.

Content that the trade actually reads

Most glazing-sector content marketing is consumer-facing copy with the word "trade" inserted. What the trade reads is narrower and duller and works far better: what changed in a standard and what it means for your orders, how two systems differ in practice rather than on the brochure, what a realistic lead time looks like this quarter, what a specification actually has to contain.

This is the same principle that governs everything else on this site. The page on this domain that ranks first in Google for a competitive research query is the benchmarks page, and it ranks because it states something checkably true that nobody else was willing to write down: there is no published, independent, industry-level cost-per-lead benchmark for the United Kingdom. Distinctive and true beats polished and generic, in marketing content and in glazing content alike.

Measured, in this sector

Glazing is one of the four sectors the measured advertising results on this site come from, alongside scaffolding, roofing and surfacing. On live Google Ads accounts: 354 tracked conversions in 30 days at a 21.08% conversion rate and a £0.38 average cost per click, and 41 conversions at £10.79 each at a 12.76% click-through rate. The unedited account screenshots are on the results page, with the original campaign names left visible.

A conversion there means a tracked phone call or a completed form. It does not mean a trade account opened, and we do not present it as one. The methodology page states what is counted and what is not.

Where to start

  1. Split trade from consumer in the advertising account, even if you sell to both. One campaign cannot serve two buyers with two budgets' worth of difference between them.
  2. Pick the measure first. Trade account applications and sample requests, not traffic. Write it at the top of the report before anything is built.
  3. Write the four pages nobody writes: lead times, account terms, specification and compliance, and system comparison.
  4. Track calls. A trade buyer rings. If the call is not tied back to the search, the account is being tuned on the half of the data that happens to be easy to see.

Selling to the trade but advertising to the public? It is the most common and most expensive mistake in this sector. Call and we will look at what your account is actually buying.

Common questions

What is business-to-business glazing marketing?

Marketing aimed at the trade rather than the homeowner: fabricators selling to installers, systems houses selling to fabricators, hardware and component suppliers selling to both, and trade counters selling to local fitters. The buyer is a business with an account, not a couple replacing their windows.

Why does consumer glazing advertising not work for trade suppliers?

Because the search volume that looks attractive is almost entirely homeowners. A fabricator bidding on "double glazing" is buying thousands of clicks from people who will never open an account. The trade searches are a fraction of the volume and worth many times more each.

How long is the sales cycle in trade glazing?

Long enough that judging advertising on the same month's orders will make you cancel campaigns that were working. Account openings follow sample requests, price lists, lead times and a visit. The measurable step is the enquiry and the account application, not the first order.

Does content marketing work in the glazing industry?

It works where it answers a question the trade actually has: lead times, specification and compliance, the practical difference between systems, what changed in the standards. It does not work as generic blog posts about the benefits of new windows, which is most of what the sector publishes.

What results have you actually measured in glazing?

PipelineOS is the sister agency of Mecosse, which carries the measured advertising work, and glazing is one of the four sectors those results come from. The figures and unedited screenshots are on the results page. They are tracked conversions on live Google Ads accounts, not orders or account openings, and we label them that way on purpose.

Do you work with installers as well as suppliers?

Yes. The glazing marketing page covers the installer side, where the buyer is a homeowner. This page is about the trade side, which needs a different set of searches and a different kind of page.
