SEO for scaffolders: own the price question nobody answers

Scaffolding search is dominated by two things almost no scaffolding website addresses: what it costs, and whether you need a licence to put it on a pavement. Both are searched constantly and answered nowhere. That is the whole opening.

In short

SEO for scaffolders in the UK needs a different build from a generic SEO plan, and this is how PipelineOS structures it. The architecture starts with the Google Business Profile, because “scaffolders near me” is settled in the map pack before anybody scrolls. Primary category Scaffolder, the yard address hidden if customers never visit it, and service areas set to the towns where a job is still profitable once two men have travelled twice. The first page worth building is Scaffolding cost guide: the page nobody in the trade will write. The most common way this goes wrong: publishing a “scaffolding [town]” page for forty towns you have never worked in, which is the scaled-content pattern Google has actively enforced against since 2024.

How we build it

The architecture starts with the Google Business Profile, because “scaffolders near me” is settled in the map pack before anybody scrolls. Primary category Scaffolder, the yard address hidden if customers never visit it, and service areas set to the towns where a job is still profitable once two men have travelled twice. The website then needs about six genuine pages rather than sixty: domestic hire, commercial contracts, chimney and roof scaffolds, temporary roofs, a cost page, and a page for each council whose pavement licence you routinely apply for.

The cost page is the opening the trade refuses to take. “How much does scaffolding cost” and “scaffolding prices per week” are high-volume searches answered almost nowhere, because the instinct is that a published price loses a quote. Publish ranges anyway, split by height, number of lifts, hire duration and whether a licence is needed, and name plainly what pushes a job to the top of the range. It ranks nationally, it pre-qualifies the calls, and it tends to be the page that earns links without anybody asking for them.

Licences are the second opening. “Scaffolding licence [council]” and “do I need a pavement licence for scaffolding” have almost no commercial competition, because the only pages that exist belong to local authorities and read like legislation. A page giving your council’s fee, the notice period and who actually applies puts you in front of a homeowner three weeks before they ring anybody. Application-specific pages — chimney scaffold, temporary roof, edge protection — are the third tier and convert better than the head term ever does.

Pages worth building

The pages worth building, in the order we would build them. A small number written properly, not a page per town.

Page to buildTarget searchesWhy it earns its place
Scaffolding cost guidehow much does scaffolding cost, scaffolding prices per week, cost of scaffolding for a chimneyThe page nobody in the trade will write. Ranges by height, lift count and duration, with the variables named honestly.
A page per council licencescaffolding licence [council], pavement licence scaffolding, do I need a licence for scaffoldingNear-zero commercial competition. Fees and notice periods change, so date the page and revisit it twice a year.
Chimney and roof scaffold pagechimney scaffold, scaffold for roof repair, temporary roof scaffold, edge protection hirePrecise intent, short hire, quick decision. These convert far better than “scaffolders in [town]”.
Commercial capability pagecommercial scaffolding contractor [county], scaffold design, TG20 compliant scaffoldingLow volume, serious buyers. Insurance levels, design capability and card status belong on the page, not behind a contact form.

Timeline and effort

Months one and two are profile and plumbing: categories and service areas corrected, real scaffold photography uploaded rather than stock, the services list populated, and a review request sent after every strike. Map movement usually shows in four to eight weeks because most scaffolding profiles are badly set up, so the bar is low. Months three to five are the cost page and the first two licence pages, which typically appear on page two or three before settling.

Months six to nine is when the cost page starts pulling national impressions and the local application pages produce actual calls. Management is a flat monthly fee quoted on the call. The effort we need from you is small but non-negotiable: photographs off site every fortnight, honest price ranges you are willing to stand behind, and a habit of asking for a review when the scaffold comes down. A scaffolder who supplies none of those is paying for a slower version of the same work.

Four ways this goes wrong

  • Publishing a “scaffolding [town]” page for forty towns you have never worked in, which is the scaled-content pattern Google has actively enforced against since 2024.
  • Leaving the Google Business Profile category as “construction company” and losing the map pack to firms half your size.
  • Letting the careers or vacancies page outrank the hire pages, so organic traffic arrives from people wanting a CISRS card rather than a scaffold.
  • Refusing to publish any price, then complaining that every organic enquiry is a tyre-kicker asking what it costs.

Questions

Will publishing scaffolding prices cost me work?

It costs you the enquiries you were going to lose anyway. Scaffolding buyers ask the price first, and a site that dodges it sends them to the next result. An honest range with the variables named — height, lifts, duration, licence — filters people who could never afford you and arrives the rest of them already half-sold. The page also ranks for a search almost nobody else is competing on.

How many location pages should a scaffolder have?

Far fewer than an agency will sell you. Eight to twelve genuinely different pages covering the towns you actually work in, each with real jobs, real streets, the local council’s licence position and photographs from that area. Four hundred templated town pages will not rank and will drag down the pages that deserve to.

Does the map pack matter more than the website for scaffolding?

For domestic hire, yes, comfortably. Most “near me” scaffolding searches are resolved in the map pack without anybody reaching an organic result. The website matters more for commercial work, for the cost and licence searches, and for the moment a contractor checks whether you look like a real firm before ringing.
